Named for the Presbyterian church, supposedly because it's a "respectable" drink – stronger than straight ginger ale, but tempered with soda water. A drink for those who wanted whiskey but didn't want to appear excessive.

The club soda cuts the sweetness of ginger ale while maintaining effervescence. This creates a lighter, more refreshing drink than a straight whiskey ginger.

Works well with almost any whiskey. Bourbon adds sweetness, rye adds spice, blended Scotch adds smoke. It's a versatile template.
