Pro Tips

📜 History

Created at Harry's New York Bar in Paris in 1924, the drink was named after a contest in Boston to coin a term for people who flouted Prohibition. "Scofflaw" won – and Jock, the bartender at Harry's, created this cocktail in their honor.

🍒 Grenadine Quality

Real grenadine made from pomegranate juice is essential. The bright red, corn syrup-based stuff won't do this cocktail justice. Try Small Hand Foods or make your own.

⚖️ Balance

This cocktail walks a tightrope between sweet, sour, and spirit-forward. If it tastes too sweet, add more lemon; too tart, a touch more grenadine.
