Irish whiskey meets Green Chartreuse in this pre-Prohibition gem
🇮🇪 Irish WhiskeyFirst appeared in Hugo Ensslin's "Recipes for Mixed Drinks" (1916). Named for County Tipperary in Ireland, it became famous through the WWI song "It's a Long Way to Tipperary."
This intensely herbal French liqueur is potent – 110 proof with 130 herbs. A little goes a long way. The ½ oz adds complexity without overwhelming the Irish whiskey.
A pot still Irish whiskey like Redbreast or Powers adds wonderful spice and weight. Blended Irish whiskeys like Jameson work well too.
Some recipes use equal parts of all three ingredients. Try different ratios to find your preference – more Chartreuse for herbal intensity, less for subtlety.
