How Beer is Made
Malting
Barley is soaked, germinated, and dried to create malt β beer's primary sugar source.
Mashing
Malt is mixed with hot water, converting starches to fermentable sugars (wort).
Boiling
Wort is boiled with hops for bitterness, flavor, and aroma. Sterilizes too!
Fermentation
Yeast transforms sugars into alcohol and CO2. Ales use warm temps, lagers cold.
Conditioning
Beer matures, flavors meld, and clarity improves. Can take weeks to months.
Packaging
Filtered or unfiltered, carbonated, then bottled, canned, or kegged. Cheers!
